Introduction

We are a licensed master trainer and distributor for solutions by The Institute for Motivational Living (IML), based in Pennsylvania, U.S.A.

IML’s flagship solution is the DISC personality assessment which is designed to reflect observable, measurable behaviours. It is available in paper and online formats. It has various language versions like English, Chinese, Thai etc.

In addition, IML carries other assessments for team roles and values profiling. All assessments are customised for use in the business/corporate, counselling, church and school contexts. Whether you are looking to understand yourself, improve your relationships with others, hire the right candidates or improve your child’s grades in school, there is a solution for you.

DISC measures the “how” of behaviour. The history of DISC goes back to the observations and work of Hippocrates who identified 4 natural types of temperaments. The modern concept of DISC was originated by William Marston, M.D. as published in Emotions of Normal People in 1928. DISC was further developed and refined by psychologists in the 1960’s. The DISC has evolved into a tool used by millions worldwide to understand behavior types and styles. DISC today is used in the workplace for hiring and teambuilding, in personal relationships to enhance communication, and in a variety of settings to help people understand the behavior of others.

There are four dimensions to the DISC model:

Dominance: How you approach problems and challenges
Influence: How you interact and influence people
Steadiness: How you respond to change and levels of activity
Compliance: How you respond to rules and regulations

DISC identifies not only one’s natural behavioural style but also one’s adapted style. The individual’s natural style is often referred to as “the real self". The adapted style is sometimes known as the “masked self”. It is a list of behaviours the individual believes the work environment requires him/her to demonstrate. DISC helps people to:

Communicate more effectively
Establish goals that benefit individuals and organizations
Forge long-term mentoring relationships
Establish realistic milestones for performance and skills enhancement
Identify obstacles and problem areas that may be adversely affecting progress
Generate alternatives and actions plans to overcome problems
Form effective teams
