Sun Hung Kai Properties (Hong Kong)
| Mandate: |
Sun Hung Kai is a well-known
leading property developer in Hong Kong and China. In
2007, it started its talent development initiative by
selecting key high potentials from its various business
units and functions. Only a few (between 5 to 10) were
selected each year to be put through a 1-year integrated
development program. |
| Solution: |
The program comprised of pre-
and post-program assessments, classroom learning and individual
coaching. Each participant were assessed with psychometric
and a customised behavioral 360 instruments. The items
in the 360 assessment were created from scratch based
on the organisation’s existing key competencies.
For six months, the participants would attend a 1/2 –day
leadership module monthly. The modules would touch on
leadership styles, coaching and influencing skills. Concurrently,
each participant would have an individual coaching session
monthly. The coaching sessions focused on supporting the
participant to progress on his/her individual developmental
goals as well as to apply the skills learnt in the leadership
modules.
At the end of nine months of coaching and learning, the
participants were assessed by their nominated colleagues
on their progress in their leadership goals. After another
six to twelve months, the participants were given the
original pre-program 360 assessment again to give them
feedback on their overall leadership performance over
the longer run. |
| Outcome: |
To-date, over 10 high-potentials had graduated
from this initiative had been put through the program.
The post-assessment results indicated an increase of close
to 20% in the participants’ leadership capabilities
over a period of nine months. |
